The Deal (The Conclusion)

By 3:00 p.m., Alvin’s team had all five spaces looking like top notch retail stores. David was impressed by how smoothly the group of men and women worked to get things to Alvin’s specifications.

David was talking to his favorite nephew, who just so happened to be his only nephew as well.

“Charles, the business made seventy-two thousand dollars today, and off one deal,” David said, and the joy in his voice was undeniable.

“Wow! That’s awesome, Unc’. So, I take it the new client was responsible for the said deal?” Charles said, the twenty-five year old was casually dress.

“Yes, a one Mister Alvin Johnson.”

“Alvin Johnson?” Charles said surprisingly.

“Yes, that’s right, nephew. What, do you know him?”

Charles quickly pulled out his phone. After making a few moves with it, he showed his uncle the screen. “Is this him, Unc’?”

“Yes, that’s Alvin. Wow! Is that his Bentley!”

Charles closed his eyes, and began to slowly shake his head.

“What is it, Charles?” The nervousness in David’s voice, mimicked the expression on his face.

“Unc’, Alvin is a major social media influencer. On every social media platform, he has over one million followers. Look, right here on Instagram alone he has two point five million followers.”

“So, what does this mean, nephew?”

“It means that seventy-two thousand he gave you, he’s gonna more than likely double that by the end of the week. And that’s gonna be the case for the entire year. Wow! And you won’t get a penny of that money, Unc’. I mean, you don’t receive a portion of the sales from any of your clients, but you could have made more money off the deal, if you had been more informed. Wow! That seventy-two thousand, was probably the best money he’s ever spent. Wow! Wow! Wow!”

David was speechless.

“You alright, Unc’?”

“There has to be a way to cancel his contract,” David said in a trance like manner.

“Cancel his contract? Why?”

“Withholding information. I would not have offered him the same deal, if I had known of his status.”

“Withholding information? Unc', did you ask him was he a social media influencer?”

“Now you know I didn’t. Hell, I never even knew there was such a thing. But he should have told me.”

“Come on now, Unc’. Do you just tell strangers everything, or do you just tell them everything you feel they need to know?”

“Whose side are you on here, nephew?” David scowled at Charles.

“I’m on the side of truth, Unc’. Alvin did nothing wrong. Unlike you, he did his homework. I have no doubt he knew all about Our Place, well in advance. He figured you more than likely wouldn’t know who he was, and he approached you early in the morning, so no unwanted attention would be drawn to him. Because attention would have had you asking questions, he more than likely would have answered. He wasn’t obligated to give you no more about himself than he did, especially if you didn’t ask. Withholding information is if you ask someone something specifically and they don’t answer, or their answer is a mixture of truth and falsehood, or their answer is a bald face lie.”

All of a sudden hundreds of people rushed past David and Charles, and headed straight for where Alvin’s shops were set up. And trailing the crowd, was none other than Alvin Johnson himself.

“David! What’s going on, man?” Alvin said cheerfully. He wasn’t dressed like he was earlier. No, he looked like a million dollars. And to compliment his attire, it looked as if he could have been wearing a million dollars worth of jewelry.

“You could have told me who you were, Alvin,” David said, he scowled at Alvin.

“I did tell you who I am. I’m Alvin Johnson. Now, you could have asked me what I did outside of selling clothing and foot wear, and I would have told you. But, you didn’t. And I didn’t see the need to volunteer such information. I mean, isn’t that the American way? Hasn’t countless Africans in America, as well as others, lost out on hundreds of thousands of dollars due to a lack of knowledge? Their ideas were stolen because they didn’t know about patents, but the thieves knew. But did they feel the need to share the said information? Of course they didn’t. Like you David, I’m a business man. I saw a great business opportunity, and I took advantage of it. Where’s the harm in that? Besides, you made seventy-two thousand dollars, unlike so many other people, who only earned valuable lessons.”

A few more hundred people moved past David, Charles, and Alvin. Most of them acknowledged Alvin in various manners. David looked sick, while Charles was in awe.

“Seventy-two thousand dollars. Wow! How nice. And what will you be making, Alvin? If you don't mind my asking,” David said sarcastically.

“See, David. Now you’re asking a great question. Even though I’m not obligated to give you an answer, what the hell. I say, close to three million. Well, that’s the goal me and the team are aiming for.”

“That's very impressive, Alvin,” Charles said, he smiled afterward.

“And you are?”

“Oh, I’m, Charles Goldmann. David is my uncle.”

“So, I take it you’re the one who told him about my status?”

“I am. What you’re doing is awesome, Alvin.”

“Thanks, Charles. So, you would you like to be a part of the team?”

“Sure!” Charles couldn't contain his excitement.

“We’re always in need of drivers. You’ll just be dropping off merchandise. And since you’re connected with location, it'll be your designated destination.”

“Thanks, Alvin.”

“Not a problem, Charles. Now, let me speak with your uncle in private.”

“Sure thing.” Charles proceeded to walk towards where all the action was taking place.

A few more hundred people moved past Alvin and David, and Charles disappeared in the crowd.

“I know this feels like a loss, David. But trust me, it isn’t. Now you know what’s what, plus, we’re connected. Seventy-two thousand this year, maybe a million plus next year. Everyone connected with me gets money. I’m into sharing the wealth, it’s one of the reasons why I’m so loved.”

“A million plus, huh?” David said cheerfully.

“Maybe more, who knows what the future holds. But there’s one thing I do know for sure, which is this, you can’t lose riding with a winner.”

“I love the sound of that, Alvin,” David said, he smiled afterward.

The two men shook hands and then Alvin proceeded to walk towards his businesses, where he was met by a thunderous round of applauds and cheers.

"Yo! Yo! Yo! What's good, Family!" Alvin said.

Thank you for taking the time to acknowledge my offering.

Remember. I’m not here to convince you to believe. I’m here to offer you something else to consider.

May we never lose our desire to outdo what we’ve already done.

Peace, Love, and the utmost respect.
